Bug Description

[i845 Chipset]
I just downloaded Ubuntu 8.10 via Bittorrent and burned it to disc using Brasero at maxium speed (52x) and went to use the live cd and it flashed a orange screen then after about 7 seconds went black with the mouse still there, so i restarted the computer and tryed to install it instead, it installed fine, got to the log on screen typed my user name and password the flashed orange screen then went black, i then left it for 5 minutes and no change.

i checked the md5 sums and they are correct and re burnt it at 4x and no change

[Was fixed by removing compiz]

Hi bhoemen,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Marking xorg-server task as Confirmed to let an X developer check (but my guess is that it is linked to compiz, so I'll open a new task on Compiz).

It should be retested on latest Jaunty to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ - if you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system.

This really seems to be a duplicate of bug:

It seems to have been fixed in Intrepid (at least with Proposed).
"Accepted into intrepid-proposed, please test and give feedback here. Please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!"

Ah sorry, forget about enable Proposed, it is in 'normal' updates now.
But it looks like their fix was just to disable compiz on that chipset (integrated video card).
At least if I understood correctly.
