Bug Description

Binary package hint: nexuiz

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

nexuiz:
  Installed: 2.4-1
  Candidate: 2.4-1
  Version table:
 *** 2.4-1 0
        500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When you start Nexuiz (freshly installed via Ubuntu repositories in this case), it seems to check for an update and continues to nag the user with a yellow rectangle which says something like "Upgrade to Nexuiz 2.4.2 now!". While this probably is a good thing for online gaming compatibility etc., it should probably be disabled like in Firefox or Warsow.

With the upstream release of nexuiz 2.5, this issue may soon become relevant to all Ubuntu releases.

This actually is an issue in the nexuiz-data package, not nexuiz. Furthermore, I just yesterday uploaded a version to Debian unstable (2.4.2-2) which includes a patch to disable the version check. It is pretty small (just some #if 0 and #endif in one file), so you might want to use that patch for all releases of nexuiz-data in Ubuntu.

Please also notice that you might want to also adopt the small change I did to debian/rules about moving the patch-stamp dependency from the build target to the build-stamp target to ensure that patching is done *before* building.

Find attached the patch that I pushed into Debian stable which is a minimized version of the patch that I pushed into unstable where I also did some other small changes, but I guess you get the idea and can figure out which way you want to go.

Thanks Gerfried. If the new version isn't automatically synced from Debian in the next few days, I will file a sync request to get all the changes in for Ubuntu Karmic.

rmadison is lying to me, as 2.4.2-2 has already been synced to Ubuntu.
