Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release: 8.10

$ uname -a
Linux dirac 2.6.27-4-generic #1 SMP Wed Sep 24 01:29:06 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ aptitude show empathy
Package: empathy
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 2.24.0-1ubuntu1
...

Logged in, the buddies showed up in the list, so far so good. Double clicked on one, started typing and empathy died, the telepathy processes were still alive. Happens exactly when I type a space after a word, doesn't matter what keyboard layout I'm using, doesn't mater which protocol is being used (well I tried both gtalk and yahoo). Tested it on the desktop as well, but both computers are pretty identical, they even have mostly the same packages installed.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instuctions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
