Keep getting error 'Error activating XKB configuration.' after login in gnome

Bug Description

Everytime I log in I get an error window containing this message:
'Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
10501000

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd'

Result of xprop -root | grep XKB is:
_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "ro", "", ""
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "ro", "", ""

 Result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd is:
 layouts = [us,ro std_comma]
 model =
 options = [grp grp:alts_toggle,grp grp:alt_shift_toggle]

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 Beta.

I have encountered the problem updating Intrepid beta from the head of Hardy, initially installed as Gutsy.
my keyboard configuration.

$ xprop -root | grep XKB
_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "evdev", "jp106", "jp", "latin", "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll,ctrl:nocaps"
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "evdev", "jp106", "jp", "", "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll,ctrl:nocaps"
$ gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = [jp]
 model =
 options = []
