Attached picture shows you command line. We need to know your graphics card to select right package.

please type lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn to terminal and attach that lspci-vvnn here. You could do it with Alpha 6 for example.

Could you attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log from the failed live session please? The easiest way to do this might be to copy the log file to a USB thumb drive (if you have one). To do this:

1. Boot live CD without thumb drive.
2. Once booted and at the command line shown above, run "tail -f /var/log/kern.log"
3. Insert USB thumb drive and watch the kernel messages to determine the device node allocated for your thumb drive (will look something like "/dev/sde1")
4. Press CTRL+C to interrupt tail.
5. Type "mkdir /mnt/usbdrive"
6. Type "mount /dev/sdxx /mnt/usbdrive", where "/dev/sdxx" is the device node determined in step 3.
7. Type "cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /mnt/usbdrive" to copy the Xorg log file to your thumb drive.

You can now use a working live CD or installed system to upload the log file here. This should give us an idea why Xorg is failing to start.

Thanks

Thanks for the log. Would you mind also providing the output of "sudo lspci -vvnn" as described above Jouni. This should preferably be using the beta live CD which isn't working. You can use the method I described above to get the data on to your thumb drive.

Thanks in advance

Please do not rar your log files. It makes them harder to review.

You'll need to use -vesa or -nvidia until -nv gains support for this card.

Changed in xorg-server:
status: Incomplete → Confirmed

This is actually a duplicate of bug 261977, where the nv driver is incorrectly chosen for unsupported nVidia cards. I'm going to mark it as such, a fix will be available shortly in daily builds of the Live CD.

Chris - thanks for bringing this up today!
