Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When firefox is closed, the window disappears immediately.
But if it is reopened quickly, it complains that another instance is running.

The user experience would be better if:
1. Firefox closed more quickly
2. Its open/closed state was refreshed more quickly
3. The 'can't open multiple instances' dialog waited for a second or two for the previous instance to finish shutting down before actually posting the dialog

This would avoid the warning dialog in the common close/reopen situation.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

This issue still affects me on Firefox 3.0.5. on Ubuntu 8.04.

I don't have time to install another version of Ubuntu - but I am running the major version of Firefox that's in Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04.

I had the same problem. It was Google Gears that did it to me. I deleted the Google Gears folder under the current profile in the .mozilla folder. The folder was ~300 MB in size and it slowed down FF on close even though Google Gears was disabled. You might have another problem, but it's a good thing to try out. Try in general to see if there is anything in the profile that is consuming a lot of disk space. Other people have reported elsewhere that deleting other large files in the profile has helped.

Ok I was a little to quick with my conclusions. It did help cleaning up the .mozilla folder, but I'm still experiencing problems with Firefox hanging on close.
