When I testing the LiveCD of Intrepid Alpha6 on my Acer Aspire 4520, I cannot enter the Graphical Mode.
At the beginning theres report :

Ubuntu is running in low-graphic mode.
The following error was encountered.
You may need to update your configuration to solve this.

Thank you for reporting this bug. Which type of graphiccard is in the Aspire 4520? Have you tried an other live cd?

I always tried the another liveCD, because I'm also tester in BlankOn project. In Hardy LiveCD there's no problem like this.

I would just like to chime in that I am having this same exact problem on my HP dv6607nr laptop with the GeForce 7150M card using the Beta release. Hope this can be resolved before final release! i have attached my full logfile if it helps. Thanks

I also have the same problem maybe it is because I have a 4x slot agp and the card goes up to 8x agp? I have a duron700mhz 320 mb memory system running 8.10 ubuntu beta

This happens with both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions as well.

How do I get an updated logfile? It is the only one I have on the computer. I can't get a log of what happens on the live CD can I?

I'm running into the same problem as well. This happens using both ubuntu-8.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso and ubuntu-8.10-beta-desktop-amd64.iso images. My system consists of:

Motherboard - ECS GeForce7050M-M (believe mine is v2.0)
Processor - AMD Athlon LE-1620
Memory - Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2x1GB matched set
Hard Drive - Samsung SpinPoint P120 SP2004C
DVD RW - Samsung WriteMaster SH-S203N

I have never had any problem running either 8.04 or 8.04.1 live cds.

For me, after the initial "(EE) No devices detected" message, there is another popup window with two selections: "reconfigure graphics" or "trouble shoot the error". Selecting "trouble shoot the error" presents a new window with several logs to look through, but I honestly do not know what I should be looking for. I also do not know how to capture and save these log files since they are present during the livecd session. If you think these log files are useful, and can give me some ideas how to capture them, I'll be happy to provide them to you.

Attached is a failsafeX-backup-081022221648.tar file that contains the :0.log, Xorg.o.log, and xorg.conf that were generated when I tried to run the current nightly intrepid desktop i386 image. I list my system configuration about.

Please let me know if any more information is needed or if there's anything else I should be checking.

I added some additional notes/comments in Bug #284492 that perhaps should be mentioned here. Specifically:

The system I am trying to run this live cd on uses an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 7050 PV chipset. I'm looking at my Xorg.0.log file and see:

(II) LoadModule: "nv"

(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nv_drv.so
(II) Module nv: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 1.5.0, module version = 2.1.10
        Module class: X.Org Video Driver
        ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 4.1

and then a large list of NVIDIA chipsets, but nowhere in this large list is "7050". Also, I do not see an entry for "7150" which is the chip that Dolomite reports having when this bug was filed. I don't see any Geforce 70** or 71** series chips listed.

Maybe there's some problem with the installer trying to use the 'nv' driver for those of us with a Geforce 70** or 71** video chip? Or maybe we with 70** and 71** should not even be defaulting to the "nv" driver?

Is there a developer who can look into this more closely? It does look like a very manual workaround is available (manually updating xorg.conf during the install), but this was something that was working find in 8.04 and is now broken. I'll be happy to shut up as soon as someone asks me to.

Also, apologies if I'm hijacking this bug report, but it does seem like we're all related. Thanks...

In this bug report Ahmad reports using a GeForce 7000M video card, and Gabriel reports using a GeForce 7150M card. So really seems like there's a problem between those of us with 70** and 71** series cards/chips and the 'nv' driver used at install.

Hello! My name is Elygia, my English is very bad as I'm from Russia, but I will try to explain my problem. I have the same problem, dicussed here. I have installed 2 times Ubuntu 8.10 x64 (Interpid Ibex) and 1 time Mediubuntu 8.10 x64, and each time I try to use compiz-fusion desktop settings I get a dialog box asking to use another drivers for my nVidia 7300 GT (PCI-E, 256 mb). After I reboot I get this text:

(EE) No devices detected.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I will attach the log file, please let me know what should I do in this case, as reinstalling did not help.
I use now Ubuntu 8.04 x86 but do not have such problems, please advice!

Elygia, please file a new bug, since this one is closed and you might have a different issue. It's either a bug in "jockey" that asks you to install a driver that is not supposed to work with your card, or a bug in the corresponding "nvidia" driver in the case it is supposed to work. Not knowing exactly which nvidia driver package you should have, I suggest you file it on jockey first.

Thanks for your response Tormod, since I was confused about the issue.
The bug report has been closed because it was solved in the final
release of Intrepid Ibex. I'm running Intrepid as the single OS on the
very laptop, this problem accrued. So I'm wondering if Elygia is
accidentally running a Beta or RC version of Intrepid.
