Thanks for your report, and sorry about the incorrect duplicate marking.
Could you tell me more about your partitioning setup? Were you installing *to* the USB drive as well as *from* it, or to one of the disks I also see in your logs? If the former, this was probably fixed in Ubuntu 8.10 final when we fixed bug 282037; if the latter we'll have to investigate further.
