Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Release Info: Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10
Package Info: firefox-3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

Upon opening Firefox for the first time, the Firefox title and menu bars are hidden by the top system "Applications & Places" bar. This behavior sticks until you either maximize or move the window using the options by right-clicking the Window-List bar.

This may be related to the low vertical resolution of my screen (1280x800).

I can reproduce this by deleting my .mozilla folder.

I've also found this, on an Intrepid Alpha 6 LiveCD - and again, I'm on 1280x800 screen resolution on a Dell M1330. Once I've dragged the window out from under the menu bar, it (rightly) refuses to go back under again.

(if anyone needs a temporary fix, holding down Alt and clicking the mouse anywhere in the Firefox window will let you drag it around the screen to somewhere more convenient)

could you please try if you can reproduce? and if you can reproduce also see if you can reproduce this issue with alpha 5? (so we can narrow down when this started). Thanks.

I have the same issue with 8.10. I upgraded and it ran without issue for a while. I believe an update caused this but have not had time to verify. I have not noticed this with other applications. I did find if you switch to full screen and back it displays correctly. My resolution is different from the above ones mentioned. I have also tried tunning the visual effects without success, thinking they were perhaps conflicting.
