Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu better. Would you mind trying to open Firefox with a fresh user profile? You can create a fresh user profile by going to System -> Administration -> Users and Groups.

Thanks

This doesn't help. Ends with same error.

I'm also having the same problem. I ran update manager which included the firefox update. I was running firefox while the updates were installing. After the update succeeded, Firefox began to act strangly (not opening web pages, search bar didn't work), so I restarted Firefox and it wouldn't start up. When I try to launch it now, it displays "Starting Firefox..." in the bottom panel of Gnome, but after a few seconds it dissapears, and Firefox doesn't launch. I'm not that proficient with linux (which is why I use Ubuntu I suppose), but this is really critical issue for me. I've had to switch to Opera for the time being. I tried "sudo apt-get remove firefox" and then "sudo apt-get install firefox," but it didn't correct the problem.

Additionally, when I try and run firefox from the terminal it displays nothing, and it doesn't launch.

MAZAFAKA - You should use Apport to send a crash report, as that will contain more useful information. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

As you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you will need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Once you have done this, please try to open Firefox again.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
