invisible characters

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Since I have installed the last updates this evening, all characters in most web pages have disappeared. (See picture) I can copy and paste the text in Ooo for example and see the characters normally, but not in Firefox. Changing the colours of the fonts (in Firefox options) won't make anything better.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of the packages I installed - it happened around 15:00 this evening (Belgian hour)

I imagine I won't be the only one to complain...

Thanks ! ;-)

Is this still an issue for you? Could you try running "ls -lArt /var/cache/apt/archives" and scrolling through to find Sept 24 so you can see what packages you installed the day this happened?

Here are the packages I installed that day :

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 65902 2008-09-24 04:04
firefox-gnome-support_3.0.2+build6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_all.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 66010 2008-09-24 04:04 firefox_3.0.2+build6
+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_all.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 25732 2008-09-24 04:04
firefox-3.0-gnome-support_3.0.2+build6
+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 38514 2008-09-24 04:04
xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support_1.9.0.2+build6
+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1064980 2008-09-24 04:04 firefox-3.0_3.0.2
+build6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7763702 2008-09-24 04:05 xulrunner-1.9_1.9.0.2
+build6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9204680 2008-09-24 19:05 firefox-2_2.0.0.17
+1nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_i386.deb

What should I do now ? Uninstall them ? But when I look in the
"Gestionnaire de paquets synaptic" (sorry, I don't know the english
words), I can't find these ones (for an example, when I'm looking for
"xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support_1.9.0.2+build6
+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1_i386.deb", I find
"xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support_1.9.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1",
what is not exactly the same...)

I hope my questions don't seem too stupid ! ;-)

Hi,

got just today the same problem. It looks like firefox renders all the characters invisible. To me it just happened today, I did a simple update in the morning and in the afternoon at a certain moment the program crashed without me noticing. when I restarted firefox, all the characthers were gone, exactly as in the description above. The character are there, if I copy and paste somewhere else i can see everything, but in Firefox are just invisible. Tryed to change the fonts setting, but with no results.

here is my "ls -lArt /var/cache/apt/archives"
