This bug affects me as well. I rebooted after a bunch of updates on Intrepid beta (amd64) and Apport told me compiz.real had crashed. I am however using the intel driver, not nvidia. The crash doesn't appear to affect the session in any way. Compiz works properly and the session starts up fine. I clicked the "send crash report" link in Apport, but I don't know if it will upload since this is an old bug report. If there's something else I should do, please let me know.

I see today, on startup (Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Alpha 5)

compiz still crashes sometimes on reboot in Jaunty for me as well. It doesn't affect the session here either: I guess compiz just re-runs after it crashes.
