Are you using Compiz or Metacity? Do other windows have title bars when maximized?

I'm using Compiz (I think). It works fine when effects are disabled. When they are enabled Firefox is the only application without title bar.

And if you unmaximize then remaximize Firefox? Then does it show up? Um, I think if you Alt+Right-click you can get the menu that lets you do that without a titlebar.

I'm getting the same problem with my Intrepid Beta installation. Firefox starts with the titlebar hidden by the gnome panel. If I remaximize the firefox window with F11 key the titlebar is visible again. I have compiz enabled and use compiz as the window manager.

Is it by any chance full-screened rather than just maximized?

Firefox starts maximized and without title bar. Then you press F11 to get full-screen and F11 again to get maximized again and... there is the title bar!!

Are you using Emerald or Gtk-Window-Manager for your window decorator with Compiz?

I'm setting this to Low importance since it has a simple workaround.

I've noticed that if I delete my .mozilla directory and then launch Firefox again, everything goes fine... until I surf a web with flash videos (like youtube, for example). After that, if I close Firefox and then launch it again, the titlebar is gone again.

I hope this helps!

I can definitely confirm this. It just started happening to me this week. Will I lose any of my Firefox settings if I delete my .mozilla directory?

Deleting your .mozilla deletes all of your firefox settings

That's what I figured. This is just annoying. Not a huge problem, but still annoying.

I think it has started after some update a week ago or so.

This stopped on it's own yesterday on my system, after a reboot.

Deactivating desktop effects solves the problem.

You can fix this problem by going in compizconfig settings manager, then in "workarounds" plugin disable "Native fullscreen support".

Ben (ben-lemire) wrote :

I was wrong about the reboot fixing it. It seems to be resolved by unchecking "Legacy Fullscreen Support" in the Workarounds plug-in in Compiz.

I have this problem and I never installed compiz. I am running fully updated Unubtu 8.10, and this problem surfaced a couple of weeks ago, I suspect after an update. I had a fresh install on about Feb. 1 and all was fine for a few weeks.

F11 sometimes works, but usually the only was to get the title bar back is to exit Firefox.

Compiz is installed and enabled by default if your hardware can support it.
If you're hardware can't run it, it's still installed, just not enabled. Are
you certain it's disabled in System -> Preferences -> Appearances -> Desktop
Effects?

The "Normal" radiobutton under System -> Preferences -> Appearances -> Visual Effects is checked. Yesterday after I did a power-off reboot the problem seems to have disappeared. I still get a diagonal loss of title bar color once in a while though. All the way across the Title Bar is a diagonal line with the default orange on one side and white on the other. But even that goes away if I move the window.

Then you're using Compiz. "None" would mean you weren't using it.

Thanks, MacKenzie. The problem stayed away for a couple of weeks and just re-appeared, so now I checked none to see if that resolves it.

I also comfirm that unchecking the "legacy fullscreen support" inside the "workarounds" plugin in Compiz solves the problem.

By the way, I'm using compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1 under Ubuntu Intrepid.

I have also noticed that unchecking the "legacy fullscreen support" box in compiz-workarounds breaks the fullscreen view of X-Plane flight simulator.
