Hello,

I just wanted to let you know that I am working on getting IPython 0.9.1 packaged for Debian. I hope to get 0.9.1 into unstable (or at least experimental) sometime soon. The work I've done so far can be found in the Debian Python Module Team's SVN repository: http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/python-modules/packages/ipython/trunk/.

Regards,

Stephan

I have packaged IPython already, but currently I am waiting for foolscap (a newly introduced dependency) to enter Debian unstable (it's currently in the new queue).

However, you can download the package (including foolscap) from my personal package archive over at http://archive.sp-its.at. You can find both IPython and foolscap in the unstable dist there.

If you find any bugs please report them either here or at bugs.debian.org/ipython.

Regards,

Stephan

Just as a heads-up: foolscap has been uploaded to sid now and ipython 0.9.1 should follow soon.

As ipython 0.9.x depends on foolscap that package would have to be ported/included in intrepid too.

ipython 0.9.1-1 has entered Debian experimental (due to the lenny freeze, would have gone into unstable otherwise) now. foolscap is not a dependency anymore but rather a recommends.

This means that at least Jaunty's ipython can be replaced with the package in Debian experimental.

Stephan

A quick check showed that ipython 0.9.1-1 is in Jaunty already. However, you could possibly download the .deb of 0.9.1-3 (latest version in Debian unstable) from http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/i/ipython/ and install it right away.

I don't seem to remember any dependency that should make this impossible to do.
