Bug Description

InkScape crashes occasionally (sometimes frequently) when resizing or moving objects.
Seems that it might be related to snapping although I'm not sure - needs further testing.

Processor is Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz
OS is WinXP SP3

could you attach an .svg file with instructions on how to produce a crash?

Kaspar (kaspartorn) wrote :

To produce an imminent crash:
1) Select the top rectangle
2) Hold down Ctrl
3) Slowly move or resize the rectangle by dragging its corner

I am having difficulty reproducing this crash on Windows XP. Is this Inkscape 0.46 or a development version (which date?)

Kaspar (kaspartorn) wrote :

It's the official release - Inkscape 0.46, built Apr 1 2008.

All snaps and grid should be on and slow Ctrl-drag - I get a crash every time, if not on the first drag, then after a couple of drags.
It messes the workflow :)

yes, I have a crash on Win XP with 0.46, exit message is :
C:\Program Files\Inkscape>inkcl.py
return code: -1073741819 (hex C0000005)

(inkscape.exe:2888): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_file_system_win32_get_info: assertion `g_path_is_absolute (filename)' failed

Emergency save activated!

Failed to do emergency save for documents:
  resize_move_crash.svg

- the part about `g_path_is_absolute (filename)' failed is probably not relevant, this happens all the time, crash or no crash.

- I am reluctant to suggest this, but it might be worthwhile to consider a recent Win32 build, available from
http://inkscape.modevia.com/win32/?M=D
- these builds are officially *unstable*, but on the other hand, I have not been able to produce this crash on this bug on the Sept 16 build.

OK, thanks!
I'll try the recent build.
Shouldn't say this about a bug, but it's nice to see it isn't just me :)

Alvin's bug seems unrelated, because "g_path_is_absolute (filename) failed" has nothing to do with transformations or snapping as far as I can tell.

Kaspar, do you think we can close this original bug? Have you been able to reproduce this lately with recent development versions?

If this really is a duplicate of bug 292077, then it might have been fixed as of rev. 20205

Kaspar, have you tried with 0.47 to see if it still happens? Please do so and report back.

I can confirm that is still a bug. Downloaded the latest portable version today. Reproduced the bug that Kaspar described. I'm on Windows 7 32bit.

One thing other thing I noticed was a blank dialog window popped up, after I closed the window Inkscape crashed.

Sorry for the noise above. Apparently it crashed for me for other (seemingly random) reasons. It just happened to occur under the same conditions.

It crashed again for a completely unrelated reason. Will do some testing to see if I can isolate the problem.

Hi h0tw1re,

Could you test the nightly build provided here

(I'm referring to this site because our own nightly builds are still offline)

Thanks!

@h0tw1r3 - do you get the detailed Windows Crash information when the crash happens with 0.46 or 0.47 (portable or default install)? It would be interesting in which modules these random crashes happen (could well be libcairo-2.dll, which would point to bug #221712 “Inkscape's Vanishing Act (the disappearing program) - updated”: inkscape crashes due to a suspected GDI leak in the pango dlls distributed with the release builds).
