Bug Description

Got a bunch of errors during my Gutsy to Hardy upgrade using the alternative CD, after I awkwardly exited the first popup I got, Samba justification. I don't even know what I hit on the keyboard, maybe escape. That seems to launch a cascade of not very good things.

Ubuntu started this bug report, so, for what it's worth, there it is.

I have the 8.04.1 alternate CD.

I had low expectations. I Didn't think about it. I expected the install to work and it did. On the other hand, I guess if it were me, I wouldn't have it where something like that could happen. I think we need more of a community effort. You know, this stuff takes time. I've been trying to promote an idea I call contribution share ratio. It's like with bit torrent share ratio where we keep people informed on how the project is doing, comparing the number of users to some absolute value of resources consumed, provided as a context to community contribution. Otherwise our contributions have no focus, ten bucks or ten grand, it's all the same. I don't even know where I would go to contribute, honestly. The message to the community is like, "We're rolling in cash, don't even think about it.".. OK, if you insist. Communication is fundamental to community. We need to arm people with the knowledge to get involved and make a difference. Or maybe you gusy are rolling in cash, and that's my point, nobody knows.

That apport thing uploaded a ton of data during this stumble in the upgrade.
