touchpad surface click erratic, doesn't work

Bug Description

using xubuntu ibex alpha 6 on an acer aspire one laptop/nettop.

Previously, in Ubuntu 8.04, taping a finger on the touchpad functioned easily and intuitively as a click. Now it usually does not register. This is a major annoyance and possibly a problem with the touchpad settings or driver defaults.

(Description: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch))
(Release: 8.10)

This is a regression in 0.15.2-0ubuntu1 .

It seems related to palms detection. It works correctly if I use the extreme end of my finger, and it fails to detect taping with a larger part of the finger.

no change for me either. Here is the output of the command : xinput list-props "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad"

btw, I don't know if it's related, but tapping on the upper right corner to simulate a middle click doesn't work anymore.

I have suggested a patch there.
