As it is now, when the user account has expired, the gnome desktop manager shows a message "Account has expired" when the user tries to login.
But when the user account is locked, the user only sees a message that the password entered is not correct.

It would be nice if the user could see that the account is locked and that they should contact the administrator.

likely an upstream issue and to send on bugzilla.gnome.org by somebody using usermod who can reply to their comments

right, the bug should be sent to GNOME by somebody who has a setup triggering the issue and can reply to their comments

the bug triagers can do that too if you don't want to but that can take a while since there is lot of bugs to triage there

Well it doesn't really matter as it's a *really* low priority
considering other bugs
Also, I've decided to use the access.conf with linux-pam which gives a
decent warning message :)
