Bug Description

My HP dv9000 Notebook (AMD Turion X2) is unable to boot without me pressing any key.
Up until kernel version 2.6.26 this worked without trouble.

After printing an error message that apparently belongs to Bug #246269

[ 2.412814] uvesafb: Getting VBE info block failed (eax=0x4f00, err=-3)
[ 2.412814] uvesafb: vbe_init() failed with -22
[ 2.412814] uvesafb: probe of uvesafb.0 failed with error -22

the system just stops booting until I press a key.
I found this behavior to be weird enough to record it on video:

additional information:

1. Waking the system from suspend to disk mode does NOT trigger this error.

2. On a normal boot, I can stop the boot process AGAIN at any time by just releasing the key, as long as the “kernel event driver” (IIRC) is not loaded. This is about the line I need to have on screen if I safely want to release the key again.

Hi rockpiper,

I see from your dmesg output you're booting with the 'noapictimer' option:

[ 0.000000] Kernel command line: root=UUID=8c5c6e45-4a21-420f-9558-fab7967cb1f6 ro quiet noapictimer

What happens if you don't boot with that option? It seems though that this might be a duplicate of bug 254668 . Care to take a look there, one of our kernel devs is already in the process of debugging. Thanks.

Leann, 'noapictimer' was there only for testing purposes. The system behaves the same with or without this option.

This is indeed a duplicate of bug 254668 and I'll be posting there.

Thanks for your help.
