Subject: cupsys: dummy bug to block current cupsys goes testing

Package: cupsys
Version: 1.1.23-14
Severity: serious
Tags: sid

This bug is dummy.

We, Debian CUPS team are considering what's best way to handle CUPS
configuration. CUPS of current sid since 1.1.23-13 is test case and
really unstable.

So we prevent current CUPS enters testing.

Thanks,

Hi Kenshi,

Is there any progress on this bug? The cupsys packages have been out of
sync between testing and unstable for at least 5 months now, which means
amd64 has had no opportunity to get binaries of this package into etch. If
cupsys is going to be delayed much longer, we probably need to consider
getting an update in via testing-propose-updates.

Thanks,

Hi Steve,

Kenshi and I discussed this issue during Debconf.

Basically, 90% of the Ubuntu package for CUPS 1.2.0 can be used as-is
for Debian (one notable difference being that Debian does NOT use the
low-privilege user), which should close several BTS entries for CUPS.

As for 1.1.23-15, it CANNOT be allowed into Testing, because there have
been too many complains in regards to how it manages configuration files
compared to previous uploads, which is why Kenshi is instead packaging
1.2.0 as the upgrade path.

While I cannot speak for Kenshi [1], I would suppose that 1.2.0 will be
uploaded to NEW soon, which should alleviate the AMD64 situation too.

[1] Kenshi already blogged that he's exausted from his Debconf trip and
feels sorry that he didn't get around uploading 1.2.0 during Debconf.

I'm sorry for my delaying. I'm preparing to upload CUPS 1.2.1 to
experimental (then will upload to Unstable after merging feedbacks).
Because 1.1 series is officially disconnected from upstream, I want
to adopt 1.2 series for Etch.

As same as q-funk said, I don't want to enter 1.1.23-15 to unstable.
But of course I don't believe CUPS 1.2 series enter to testing
so soon, I'd like to use t-p-u to install 1.1.23-12 version for solving
current amd64 situation.

Could you tell me what's the best way to upload it?
I think:
1. Prepare etch environment and extract 1.1.23-12 source.
2. Set distribution to "testing-proposed-updates".
3. Increase version to "1.1.23-12etch1" or something.
4. Write changelog, for example "uploading for amd64".
5. Build and upload ftp-master.

Thanks,

Thanks, this is what I wanted to know. I'll see about getting a binary
upload done to testing-proposed-updates by one of the porters.

This shouldn't require a sourceful upload on your part at all.

Now we uploaded 1.2 series and try to migrate this series to testing.
