Bug Description

Binary package hint: tracker

When indexing and watching is disabled, tracker applet runs but without showing a tray-icon. As showing a trayicon seems to be the only purpose of tracker-applet this seems to be a total waste of resources (tracker-applet uses about 1,6mb of memory on my system).

Confirming on Hardy. I removed tracker-applet to stop this process.

This is still the case with Intrepid. I'm not sure whether to send this upstream or not. After all, we are actually explicitly executing tracker-applet from gnome-session, so I'm not really sure if this should be dealt with upstream.

When I create a new user in Intrepid, the new user experiences this bug. Changing 'EnableIndexing=false' to 'EnableIndexing=true' in ~/.config/tracker fixes this bug for me

I think that I misunderstood this bug. I thought that the problem was the lack of a tracker icon. But reading the original report I now realise the the problem is tracker-applet running when there is correctly no icon displayed.
