Space character gets deleted on font-size or font-style change

Hello,

If you have some text, select a space character (i.e. the white space) or a word and include a space in that selection, then bold it using the toolbar at the top of the screen it deletes the space.

Tested in Ubuntu Hardy svn built ~10th sept.

I can confirm it on fedora9, build 19851, but only if space is selected. If a word is selected together with the space it just gets bold as expected.

I can confirm it on osx 10.4.11 as well. Again, only if the space is selected. Also I noticed that I get the same effect when I change the font style to italics.

I tryed to do custom spacing (ab)using spaces changing their font sizes, but that makes the space disapear completly.
So changing the font size of a space also triggers this bug.
Only workaround I could find is to split the text in multiple textblocks...
But now I get a strange text render error on pdf export which I need to further analyse...

If you need to do that there's no need to change fonts or style of the spaces. Just place the cursor where you want to control the spacing and use alt+arrows to move the text at the right of the cursor.

Btw: I can confirm the bug in current SVN.

Thanks buddy, I've been using Inkscape only for the last two logo requests and found no obvious way to control spacing. I kinda figured there's some hidden way to do it though, thanks for telling me.

Not so hidden. Just check the tutorials included in the help section ;-)

Retesting originally reported issue:
- reproduced with 0.48.5:
  the space character is deleted.
- not reproduced with 0.91:
  the space character is no longer deleted
  (but by itself can't be assigned a different font size or style either)

Closing this report (issues with formatting of space characters in Inkscape >= 0.91 should be tracked separately).
Unlinking duplicate report bug #1423522 which still persists in Inkscape 0.91.
