Bug Description

Binary package hint: intel-microcode

Intel just released a new version of microcode (fix to CPU bugs), and asked to me and Ubuntu to update it (see mails <email address hidden>).

Few days ago I updated the package in Debian, and I'm requesting unblock also for Debian lenny.

Having some problems to boot, i wonder if these packages (intel-microcode & microcode.ctl) that i used on Jaunty are the source of the trouble.
On the Intel site, it says that Linux is able to use microcode if microcode is placed in /etc/firmware; but i have not /etc/firmware at all: is ubuntu deal in a specific way with microcode ?

The logs don't show me any warnings, but here are the random messages when i boot:
- crc error
- wrong alloc magic
- alloc magic is broken
- invalid compressed format

Some times, when i shut down the system, session is closed but not the system: cpu still running & fans
