Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

(I'm just guessing on the package.)

My laptop's integrated SD card reader, which works in Hardy, fails to have card appear in Gnome when inserted (even as an unmounted volume).

Here are the pertinent part of my lspci:

Thank you for the response... I'm attaching my full dmesg output after booting into the Intrepid Alpha 6 Live CD and inserting an SD card.

Hi Everett,

Based on the dmesg output it appears the card is recognized by the kernel when you insert it. Care to take a look at the following to provide additional debug information - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices . Thanks.

Thank you for the reply, Leann. I tried to follow the instructions on that wiki page, but it seems that gnome-volume-manager is not installed by default in Intrepid.

Should this be the case?

Hi Everett, Leann

I also have a T2010. I am using Intrepid Beta. I can plug an SD card in and have it auto-mount (including F-Spot want to handle it if there are photos on it).

I can't however mount an xD card or a 'Memory Stick' and have them recognised - dmesg shows no sign of either being plugged in at all. Does Intrepid come with drivers for these?

Hi All,

Sorry for the delayed response. Everett, Intrepid is set to be released in the next few days. Care to confirm with the final Intrepid release that this issue is at least resolved for SD cards, as snowolfedu commented. In the meantime I'll see what we can do to get the wiki docs updated.

@snowolfedu, it might be best to open a new report regarding the other cards you are trying to use as it's a slightly different issue than what is being targetted here. My suspicion is that the drivers will need some patching. Thanks.

Leann,

It turns out that my problem was related to one particular SD card of mine; others were fine.

Unfortunately, Ubuntu was the only place this card did not work properly; I could use it in my phone and under Windows (using my laptop's card reader, where it didn't work in Ubuntu) without difficulty.

After freshly formatting the card, it now works everywhere, including Ubuntu. Unfortunately, this means I can no longer reproduce the issue. Sorry about that.

Thanks Leann.

I will raise seperate bug reports in the near future.
I have a number I need to make so will collate them and raise them all at the same time - seperately of course.

Hrm, as it seems this is no longer an issue for Everett I'm going to go ahead and close this report. Thanks.
