Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

In The Netherlands the names of months don't start with a capital, so when I write the name of a month in OpenOffice.org Calc it's automatically changed to lower case. I like to have the first letter to be a capital, but I can't find any way to use a capital. I always use a capital for every first word I type into a cell (or the first word if there are more words in one cell), but when this word is a month, I can't use a capital. Please give me an option to choose wether I want to use a capital or not.

I'm using OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 on Ubuntu 8.04.

There is probably an option under Tools->AutoCorrect for your language to set it the way you want. Please follow up stating if that resolves your problem.

I can't find a way to do it. Unchecking "Use replace table" on the tab Options doesn't fix this problem and removing all entries from the replace table also doesn't fix it.

Do you still have this problem with openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-9ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 8.10?

I tried typing in 'Oktober' after setting my document language to Dutch (Netherlands) and it didn't change it to lowercase for me.

I've tried some different combinations. Here are the results:
- openoffice.org-core 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2 on Ubuntu 8.10 (Dutch version of OOo and Dutch version of Ubuntu) > I type "Oktober" or "Juni" and after pressing Enter, it's converted to "oktober" or "juni". Typing the name of months in English doesn't convert them to lower case.
- OOO300m9 (Build:9358) on Ubuntu 8.10 (Dutch version of OOo and Dutch version of Ubuntu) > Same results.
- OOO300m9 (Build:9358) on Windows XP (Dutch version of OOo and English version of Windows) > I typed "Juni" and "Oktober" and the first character remained upper case, but there was a red line beneath the months, so the "Default language for Ducuments" was set to English. I changed it to "Nederlands (NL)" (Dutch) and the red lines disappeared. The first character of the name of the months remained in upper case, but when I retyped "Juni" and "Oktober" it was changed to lower case.
- OOO300m9 (Build:9358) on Windows XP (English version of OOo and English version of Windows) > "Oktober" and "Juni" still get converted to "oktober" and "juni" even if I uncheck "Check capitalization" under Tools > Options... > Language Settings > Writing Aids > Options > Check capitalization.
- OpenOffice.org 2.4.2 on Windows XP (English version of OOo and English version of Windows) > After changing language to "Dutch (Netherlands)" and typing "Oktober" it's converted to "oktober" and "Juni" is still converted to "juni".

Tell me when you need more information.

This appears to be an ooo-build issue as I can't replicate it on upstream 3.0.0 but do see it on Ubuntu 3.0.1~rc1.

Why has the status changed to "Incomplete"? Why is this bug report incomplete? Everyone can reproduce this bug:
- Just install Ubuntu in Dutch with Dutch regional settings (for example in VirtualBox);
- You then have a Dutch version of Ubuntu with the Dutch version of OpenOffice.org;
- Just start OpenOffice.org Calc and type the name of the months in Dutch while using a capital for the first character of every month (Januari, Februari, Maart, April, Mei. Juni, Juli, Augustus, September, Oktober, November, December);
- Calc will replace the capital for a lower case character.

This bug is so simple to reproduce.

Patrick,

If you actually bothered to look at launchpad you would have seen that the Ubuntu bug is not marked incomplete it is the upstream bug that is marked incomplete.

Well, Launchpad can be difficult to use for new users and users who don't use it very often. I didn't even know you reported the bug at Novells Bugzilla. Now I know about Novells Bugzilla, I'm going to register there and try to help them.
