[Intrepid] Hang at usplash

Bug Description

Intrepid boot hangs always at the same point less than a quarter of the way through usplash progress bar.

It seems to occur around the time disk check runs.

Continually restarting eventually results in a successful boot (with or without a disk check).

If I turn off usplash I can see that the line which it hangs at is:

[18.234653] Detected Intel Wirless Wifi Link 3945ABG

Hi Nick,

Can you provide the output of 'cat /proc/version_signature' so we can see which version of the kernel you are running? I saw some previous bug reports commenting the kernel would hang right around the time iwl3945 would load but this was resolved with the newer 2.6.27-3 kernel. Thanks.

I've noticed that some times the actual line it hangs at is just after "Detected Intel Wirless Wifi Link 3945ABG" e.g. at the synaptic touchpad driver line instead.

I have a similar problem with a Thinkpad X60. When I set nosplash in /boot/grub/menu.lst, the last message I see before hanging is

input: Thinkpad Extra Buttons as /devices/virtual/input/input12

If I turn the wireless switch OFF AND boot into recovery mode, then the boot progresses. This is with Kernel 2.6.27-6.

I looked into kern.log and saw the messages upon successful boot. Shortly after that "Extra Buttons" message, there was

Oct 9 18:14:02 thinkpad-x60 kernel: [ 63.788696] firmware: requesting iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode
Oct 9 18:14:02 thinkpad-x60 kernel: [ 63.868990] iwl3945: Radio disabled by HW RF Kill switch

What I didn't see were any entries for the failed boots.
