knetworkmanager connects to untrusted networks

Bug Description

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

Running Hardy on a Inspiron6400 with wireless module "iwl3945".

I have my own encrypted wireless network listed as trusted, however knetworkmanager will attempt to connect first to insecure wireless networks (if these are available) while these are marked as *untrusted*.

Hi,
is this bug still affecting you?

If so, could you please attach the output from the following commands?

* Reproduce the bug, and then run "cat /var/log/syslog >> complete-syslog-270124" in a terminal. There should now be a file called complete-syslog-270124 in your home folder. Please attach that file to this bug.

* uname -a

* iwlist scanning
* iwconfig

* dpkg -l knetworkmanager

Thanks!

Can't really comment if this still occurs on Intrepid. But on hardy it certainly did. However this seems to be a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/210459

In which NM will happilly connect to insecure networks, and if you later mark them as insecure, the setting is ignored.

I am not sure wheather this is really a duplicate of #210459
First of all, it affects two different applications: nm and knetworkmanager. Secondly:

270124 describes the connection to a "untrusted" network, though a connection to a "trusted" one is possible. (networks with different ESSID)

210459 describes the automatic connection to unencrypted network, which was formerly encrypted (network with _same_ ESSID)

I reckon you are right. Thank you for paying more attention to the reports
than I did.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Kubuntu better. The KDE3 version of KNetworkManager has been discontinued by its original authors. This unfortunately means that there will be no more bugfix releases, and updates in general will be limited to those fixing security flaws.

While we cannot fix your bug, the good news is that the applet has been totally rewritten for KDE4 in the upcoming Kubuntu 9.10 release. There is a good chance that this bug is no longer an issue with the new applet. If you find any similar or new issues with the applet included in Kubuntu 9.10, we would politely ask you to file them as new bugs against the "plasma-widget-networkmanagement" package.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.
