I had the same problem here after upgrading to inteprid.

solved it by opening gconf-editor and browsed to /system/networking/wireless/networks/%ssidname% and reset wep_auth_algorithm (I think the value before changing was 12). (Setting wep_auth_algorithm to 1 also works for me). After next reconnect to the desired network I used the "old" wep (ascii) key with "wep 64/128-bit key" enabled.

Kind regards
Michael

I have this problem with a fresh install of Intrepid.

Perhaps more troubling, nm-applet did not make it clear that the passphrase it accepted is not treated like an ASCII WEP key. Instead it happily accepted my ASCII key, waited for a longish time, and eventually came back and asked me for my key again. No indication that the key had actually failed. No indication that another type of key exists but is not supported. I ended up spending six hours chasing down forum posts and bug reports related to broken drivers, only to discover in the end that nm-applet simply could not handle an ASCII key.

I can confirm this. I could only connect after converting my ascii key to hex: `perl -e 'print unpack("H*", "WepAsciiKeyHere"),"\n"'`

thats fixed in 0.7.1 at least; can you check whether its also working in intrepid packages in https://edge.launchpad.net/~network-manager/+archive PPA?. Thanks.
