xserver freeze when desktop effects are enabled

Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
If I enable the desktop effects, it looks like something bad happens when the screen saver becomes active. The screen goes black (which is what's expected, since i don't have any screen saver animation enabled), but then I'm unable to get out of the screensaver. Moving the mouse or pressing a key does nothing, and I'm not even able to switch to the text console.
