Bug Description

Binary package hint: gcalctool

I can't seem to type a decimal point in the calculator. There are several workaround to get one (click on the corresponding button, hit enter to get the trailing zeroes and then edit the decimal part) but this renders the calculator almost unusable anyway...

And no, my "." key is not broken.

I recently upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy and never noticed the problem before, so I guess this was introduced in Hardy.

It might be also worth mentioning that I live in Belgium and have configured the appropriate keyboard layout, which means I have to hit shift to be able to enter a decimal point and it might be that gcalctool totally ignores the shift key. I just noticed it ignores the CAPSLOCK state, so that seem plausible. I find it barely believable, but this option might be worth investigating...

Not sure this can help, but here is the output of "locale":

ged@plaf:~/ > locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"

I do get the same problem with another user on the same machine, and even on my other computer (a desktop computer). Some (possibly) interesting facts I discovered since the initial bug report:
- the "." key *in the numeric pad* on the Desktop computer works fine.
- the "." key in the "emulated numpad (Fn key + xxx)" of my laptop works fine.
- Using the French locale it works fine (but keep in mind that in the French locale, the decimal separator is a comma "," and not a dot, and one doesn't need shift to type one).

please do not confirm your own reports, someone else having the issue should do it. setting it to new, since i cannot confirm that behavior.

Still an issue? Nobody else has confirmed the bug you seems tobe the only one having it, probably this more like a broken user setup rather than a bug per se. thanks.

Yes, still an issue. And it's still present in Intrepid. And I confirmed it with different computers. Maybe not many people with non-querty keyboards have their system in English.

could you send it upstream to bugzilla.gnome.org since you're having the issue? thanks in advance.

I also confirm this bug on Hardy. My locales are set to en_GB.UTF-8 and my keyboard configured to belgian azerty.

FWIW, I've reported it upstream as: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574358,
But the bug was already fixed in the new version of gnome (and thus in upcoming Jaunty).
