update manager upgrading fails while fetching

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

system = imac blueberry
os = xubuntu 6.10 with all current updates
problem = default upgrade manager (applications => system => update manager) fails to upgrade to 8.04 lts. fetches the packages for the upgrade and then fails with the following note...

Please report this as a bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.

Thanks for your bugreport and for the logs.

Can you please run: "sudo update-manager --proposed" and see if that fixes the issue (from a terminal)? What machine are you using (what is the output of "uname -a"?).
