Bug Description

the only problem I have is that recording the image of ZC301-2 seems to
freeze up ubuntu or just not work, like from streamer:

user@ubuntu:~$ streamer -o foobar.avi
avi / video: 15 bit TrueColor (LE) / audio: none
ioctl: VIDIOCMCAPTURE(frame=0;height=144;width=176;format=6): Invalid
argument
no way to get: 320x240 15 bit TrueColor (LE)
movie writer initialisation failed

Also, opening /dev/video0 in avidemux freezes ubuntu. Xawtv says "error
[init]" if I try to record from there.

Which version of Ubuntu? I know that this driver is a little flakey in breezy.
So if you could test dapper, I'd appreciate that.

Hi, yes this is in dapper with 2.6.15-8-386

Id like to confirmt his too. In dapper the drivers are loaded fine and the /dev/video0 device is created. Running a program such as canorama hanges for a long time, then pops up a dialog saying unable to open /dev/video0

Using any of the command line tools give:

/dev/video0: function not implemented

should have mentioned im on amd64. Also, ive had a look over the spca5xx module sources, and the device ids etc are all in there, and its listed as a supported card on the sites i could find. Im using the logitech quickcam for notebooks (non-pro version)

I have used the Logitech Laptop camera for a few days in dapper in i386, 2.6.15-19-686.

I can record in xawtv if I go through the GUI, change the movie format to AVI, and choose the movie format "24 Bit True Color". All other movie format options fail with the mentioned message. I have found no way to set the option in the CLI of xawtv or streamer.

I can also snapshot in Camorama (Laplace and Mirror Image crash). gqview shows a picture if I set -v /dev/video0, but hangs when I capture or take a picture. Ekiga works fine too now - this seems to have improved over the last few days. Initially Ekiga would sometimes not find the video device, but reliably does now.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
