Proxy settings for download the update

I'm getting error as "failed to fetch http:/in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/hardy/main/i18n/translation-en_in.bz2 could not resolve '123@proxy2" Our office internet connection uses a proxy that requires authentication. I've set up the username & password in Mozilla & I can browse google also... and set up proxy with authentication in follows.
a. SystemadministratorNetwork
b. SystempreferenceNetwork proxy
c. Systemadministratorsynaptic package manageredit preference
d. Mozilla explorereditpreferences. ------

but still i cant get download from update manager, apt-get & synaptic package manager? can anyone tell me the solution for this..

OS version : Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS.
