Looking at /etc/gdm/gdm.conf-custom there is now an option Browser=false

thank you for your bug report, the gdm.conf-custom config is your user configuration, the ubuntu one is in gdm.conf which uses the correct value there, that's not an ubuntu bug

Ok so it's not a problem with gdm.conf-custom.
But I don't have a face browser since yesterday night.
And testing with gdmthemetester on every List theme doesn't show any List.

The problem is in gdmsetup.

In gdmsetup, in local tab, in Style choose Themed... All the choices are available, including face browser, but in gdm the face browser will not show up.

gdm didn't change recently so that's weird, could you attach your gdm.conf and gconf.conf-custom configurations?

I can confirm this issue. Since a while back in Intrepid, the face browser has disappeared and I cannot get it back.

Hi,

yesterday I upgraded from hardy to intrepid, everything went OK.

I was using "Happy GNOME with Browser" and the face browser was there.

Then I installed the "Peace" theme and started using its login screen with the browser and the faces were still there.

Today I changed my monitor and generated a new xorg.conf with the "nvida xserver settings" tool and now the browser is gone...

Now I tried most everything... I took the old xorg.conf and manually edited it to only change the monitor name and resolution... the face browser is still gone :-(

I have the same problem on Jaunty. It seems that it is related to installing the theme "Peace". Face browser worked properly before installing it. See also bug #358967.

the issue is deprecated in the karmic version now
