Can the zip be anywhere in the second zip? It works fine for me when the zip is in a subfolder.

I've just tried it and it seems to open zips with zip files inside. However it

1. It tries to open those embedded zips with the viewer so it fails. It should open a new instance of ark or better yet, expand the zip as if it were a directory, I guess this is more a wish than a bug.
2. It fails if the extension is not zip. For example, it fails to open jar files while file-roller opens them. I don't know if this is an upstream bug or if it's related to packaging, since the changelog of 4.1.1 states that it should now open files by content.

Jonathan I had that problem when opening zips attached to emails (on kmail) that had a single zip inside them.
I didnt do many more tests, but I'll see if tonight I can create a few test zips and update here.

As promised I did a few test last night.
I create several archives with 3 levels of sub-archives from zip, tar.gz and tar.lzma.

All failed to open the second level with ark, but worked wit file-roller.

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
