Hi pshahmumbai,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

All the above attachment are from Live CD without any changes.

I have to manually add these lines to xorg.conf to enable higher resolution

We are sorry for not being able to give feedback to your bug report earlier.

I am not an expert at Xorg, but it does looks like X was not able to connect to your monitor
to read it's supported modes, synchronization speed capabilities, etc:

(II) NV(0): Using CRT on CRTC 0
(--) NV(0): VideoRAM: 8192 kBytes
(==) NV(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
(II) NV(0): Configured Monitor: Using default hsync range of 31.50-37.90 kHz
(II) NV(0): Configured Monitor: Using default vrefresh range of 50.00-70.00 Hz

(II) NV(0): Clock range: 12.00 to 350.00 MHz
(II) NV(0): Not using default mode "640x350" (vrefresh out of range)

What is the mark and model of your monitor?

Because it has been a long while since you reported this bug, it could be interesting to test it with upcoming Jaunty version to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ - if you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system.

summary: - Geforce 2 MX max resolution 800x600 in 8.10
+ 8.10 alpha, EDID failing -> max 800x600 and Geforce 2 MX with VideoRAM:
+ 8192 kBytes?

It may seems a bit dump question but did you make sure the monitor plug was well connected?
(in case video signal would pass, but not plug&play signal)

Do you intend to try the 9.04 Beta CD ?
