I've got a WIP fix for 3.5.9 in Hardy, will spin a fix against backports as well.

Here's the debdiff for 3.5.9; 3.5.10 requires a newer kdelibs to be updated, so until thats done, lets get this fix properly into updates.

kppp opens which is where the code changes were, but without a modem, I can't test beyond that.
