Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I tried to install the kubuntu intrepid alpha5 64bit while using an old /home/ partition. The installation process started out pretty smooth and after it was done "copying files" it said, "creating user," then the whole thing just crashed and stopped working, and now I have a half-installed operating system with a fubar'ed Master Boot Record.

I don't know if my /home/ partition had anything to do with it, and I don't know if it is a KDE-specific bug.

I am able to replicate the bug, but I don't know how to obtain the proper logs. Tell me which logs you guys would need, and I will get it for you ASAP.

hmmm I tried installing a 4th time and this time it worked... don't know why there was a difference.

However, when it completed the installation, there was no notification. The progress bar dialog simply closed, but the main ubiquity window stayed open and still had the Install button available to be clicked. That could certainly confuse a newbie.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 267580, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
