X server starts but display is blank

Bug Description

I have a ASUS A6b00va
Sonoma 1.73
ATI X700 128MB

I installed Ubuntu 5.10 and in start my system hanged in hotplog running. and it
fixed when I locked Audio devices from my BIOS.
but at know I see a black screen instead of Xwindow, and I try to apply some
other bugs that similar to it but no one can help me

Please try to add this line to the Device section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS,Auto"

If this works, it is the same as bug #22985.
