Bug Description

Binary package hint: ltspfs

When a user on one thinclient plugs in a local device, the devices icon appears on each desktop. This is extra annoying for the floppy icons, since now every user has about 20 floppy icons on the desktop.
This behavior started since upgrading to ubuntu 8.04

I wasn't able to reproduce that behavior with current ltspfs, can you please try with Intrepid and confirm that the problem is still happening for you ?
LTSPFS should create a user-specific /media/<user> directory that only the user can list restricting the other users from listing it and showing the links on their desktop.

Hi,

This is on a production system, which i cannot upgrade at this moment (or anytime soon).
It seems to be consistent though. I saw it on fresh installs on two different servers.
Te only thing that makes our system slightly different for the standard ltsp setup is that we use ldap auth.

the media/<user> dirs are there. owned by root

We have the same issue here with ltsp in ubuntu 8.04.1. But only floppy drives are affected. usb sticks do not appear on other users desktops.

The kind people on #ltsp pointed out that this is caused by having all users in the same main group instead of each user its own group.

This behaviour is expected, and will not be changed. The solution is to make sure every user has its own group, also on an ldap setup.

They mentioned that they would update the documenation to reflect this.
