Arias, do you have the same error message?

texsys.cfg should be in /etc/texmf/latex/, and should be found as
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/base/texsys.cfg because it is a symlink to
the file in /etc. Are both files present on your systems?

What is the output of the following commands:

kpsewhich -progname=latex texsys.cfg
kpsewhich --var-value TEXMF
grep texsys.cfg /var/lib/dpkg/status

TIA, Frank

Ah, I didn't notice. So perhaps there are two separate issues. Maybe
what Blars found is a real bug, but I think probably Arias has simply
misconfigured his system badly - he also reported that he is unable to
build the package, while it builds just fine on the buildds.

Arias, without more input we won't be able to sort this out, I'm tagging
the bugs moreinfo.

It appears that /etc/tetex/latex/ was one of many directores lost in a
recent disk crash. When I got an error that at first glance looked
like an already filed bug, I assumed it was the same and not a problem
specific to my system. Unfortunatly, restoring the directory from my
backup has not cured my install problem, but I'll continue assuming
that my problems are (directly or indirectly) due to my disk crash.

The error log I got after restoring /etc/texmf/latex/ sugested
updmap-sys --syncwithtrees
which fixed the problem installing for me.

If that really helped, it means that either

- you have restored files in /etc/ for a TeX font package that is no
  longer installed, or

- you have also lost (map) files, these could be in /etc/texmf/map or in
  /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map.

Your problem wasn't related to the bug, anyway - in your case, only
the jadetex format failed to build, which is in a separate package
jadetex. In the original bug, several formats from teTeX failed.

Good to hear that it works again for you,
Frank

We really need this information if we want to find the reason. If you
don't submit it within a couple of days, I'll assume that the problem
was a local misconfiguration and has meanwhile been solved, and close
the bug.

What about the other bug you submitted, the build failure?

I don't think this need to be kept so secret.

Many thanks for the report. Could you please resubmit it as a separate
bug? It is a different issue, although the error message sounds
similar, and we should handle it separately.

Many thanks for the report. Could you please resubmit it as a separate
bug? It is a different issue, although the error message sounds
similar, and we should handle it separately.

Last reminder: Are you willing to help us to fix that bug?
If not we'll close that bug soon, as we're not able to find out why
the installation fails.

The bug is not reproducible and the submitter did not send in his log
file for 1,5 month after we told him a few times to do so. Closing
that bug now.
Arias, if you're still willing to help us to debug the case please
send us the logs.

This is the logfile that my apt-get install tetex-bin creates.
