Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

Windows Media 9 files will be displayed with large artifacts. I have included 2 screenshots on which the problem is clearly visible. The totem screenshot is the one with the artifacts and the mplayer screenshot is what it should have looked like.

NOTE: playing with vlc will show same artifacts

I ran into this exact problem today and I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out what was causing it. The video I tried playing works fine under windows, played in VLC. However, I got the same artifact problem in both totem and VLC. The artifacts appear to consist of a pink overlay that disappears block-wise where motion updates occur and what looks like blocks of randomly colored pixels that fade in slowly until the next keyframe. It is very noticeable and extremely annoying.

the issue is likely a gstreamer ffmpeg one

does this still happen in intrepid?

you can also test the backported packages from https://launchpad.net/~motumedia/+archive if you didn't upgrade to intrepid yet.

I will update to intrepid as soon as the first beta is available. I will test it there too and report my results here.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I am sorry - I totally forgot to update my bug report.

Actually there are no further issues with artifacts in ubuntu 8.10.

This problem is solved.

Thanks a lot.
