Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-generic

Similar to this bug - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224340 - the Intrepid kernel as of 2.6.27-2 has Xen support enabled.
This prevents the installation of the binary drivers from the Nvidia website, which I know I personally need to enable dropping from X to the virtual console (as this is a bug with the Nvidia drivers over which the development team have no control I did not report this).

I do not know whether the driver in the repositories has this problem; I don't use them due to the aforementioned bug in the Nvidia drivers, which was finally fixed in the 177.70 beta driver.

Xen support was also enabled in the previous 2.6.27-1 kernel.

There does appear to be a workaround by editing a line in autoconf.h in the include files for the kernel, but I really don't know what this does. As it is, I will try it in a few moments and see if it fixes the problem.

I attempted the workaround by changing the line "#define XEN_CONFIG 1" in /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.27-2-generic/include/linux/autoconf.h to read 0 as the value instead.
This failed and the drivers reported the Xen error once again.

There are several other Xen-related options in autoconf.h as well, which I will also modify to be 0 instead.

I also have the same issue on 2.6.27-7-generic. However, I don't have XEN_CONFIG defined in autoconf.h (I have other xen-related options defined in this file though).

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately.]

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue. Thanks.

affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

Ubuntu has packages nvidia drivers in their own DKMS packages. These should install just fine. Close this as Won't Fix.
