Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 8.10 reached EOL on April 30th, 2010. hwtest has been superseded by checkbox, which no longer includes an audio_playback script (it tests audio through other means). Thus I'll mark this bug invalid. Thanks!
