Bug Description

Please sync Openafs (1.4.7.dfsg1-5) from Debian. It just contain minor fixes versus -3, which is the version in the archive currently. Both -3 and -5 needs to be fixed to compile on 2.6.27, however it is worthwhile to keep the delta with Debian at a minimum.

I assume Russ is not interested in releasing another version of Openafs for Debian right now, so we need to patch the package in Ubuntu.

I have been running 1.4.7.dfsg1-5 with patches for 2.6.27 for a couple of days without any noticeable regression and will fill another bug as soon as the sync has been processed. Unless it is rejected, that is.

[Update: 1.4.7.dfsg1-6 now includes said patches for 2.6.27.]

I've been looking at the changelog entries for -4 and -5 and see no reason to sync it right now (we are in FeatureFreeze now and try to sync only important changes from Debian).

What advantage would have patching -5 to work with 2.6.27 instead of -3?

To keep the delta against Debian at a minimum and I don't expect Russ to do any new release of openafs before Lenny is released. Execpt that not much. But I can understand your point and as I said in 267504 the debdiff will probably apply to -3 too.

I'm actually going to try to get out one more release that fixes #489613
(I think), and I'm going to try to include a minimal patch for 2.6.27
support (if you have a tested one, that would be awesome). I don't know
if the release managers will go for it, though.

Russ that would be awsome, and hopefully that would be a better sync-candidate, depending on when you get to push it, i.e if you upload the new version before the ubuntu sync window closes for Intrepid. It is not my decision to accept a sync request though.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openafs/+bug/267504 contains patches for building on 2.6.27 which are accepted (and commited) upstream. I have been running with them for a couple of days now and I haven't noticed any regression.

1.4.7.dfsg1-6 is now available in Debian, can we please have that synced so that we will have a working openafs in Intrepid as the current version does not work with 2.6.27.

I a sync request enough or do I need to request a feature freeze exception? It is not a new upstream version.

I compiled 1.4.7.dfsg1-6 on intrepid amd64, and it works. Can someone change the importance to higher than Wishlist, since this is the first version that works at all on intrepid?

Well, a sync would generally seem to be a wishlist... but on the other hand, openafs does regress in intrepid without this sync. But it's rather late... I think there's a special process that needs to occur for this package to make it into the archive.
