Bug Description

Please sync gdesklets 0.36-5 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) or incoming.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Ubuntu changes (removal of extra mime files) have been incorporated
by Debian.

Changelog since current intrepid version 0.36-3ubuntu1:

gdesklets (0.36-5) unstable; urgency=low

  * Redo 40_dont_update_mime.diff to use a more compact syntax by.
    Loïc Minier's suggestion. Thanks lool.
  * Regenerate 70_relibtoolize.diff accordingly.

gdesklets (0.36-4) unstable; urgency=high

  * Include patches based on Cesare Tirabassi <email address hidden>'s proposal
    to stop gdesklets from generating extra mime files to /usr/share/mime.
    Thanks Cesare Tirabassi. Closes: #497370.
    + Added 40_dont_update_mime.diff to check whether DESTDIR is set before
      update-mime-database so that it doesn't run in our builds.
    + Refresh 70_relibtoolize.diff.
    - Remove lines to remove mime files by hand in debian/rules based on
      Cesare's patch.
    + Fix RC bug, hence high urgency.
  * Build-Depends on intltool in debian/control*.

Our upstream, which is Debian (you can see the changes in the changelog which is pasted in the bug report). I have changed that to Debian so that it is clear to everybody.

I have indeed suggested to Debian to bring this up with you (as I suppose your are upstream of Debian).
The problem is that update-mime-database is being called unconditionally by your autoconf files, and this obviously messes up our packages since it is run on the build machines.
It would be nice if we could have a configure option (say --no-update-mime-datatabase) that we could use to avoid having to patch them.
You can check Debian bug 497370 and Launchpad bug 263417, 260803 and 263389 for some background.
