As this i mainly a stability fix and also adds some security (SSL) and gnome integration i would like to see this in intrepid too.

Also the piding package doesn't affect any other package so there shouldn't be a problem

Attached is my diff.gz from Pidgin 2.5.0-0ubuntu2 to Pidgin 2.5.1-0ubuntu1.

This update potentially fixes: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/263293 (needs testing).

I realise we may want to wait for Debian experimental before updating this package. If anyone would like to test it, I have it available on my PPA.

SSL should fix the HTTP bug as it doesnt use HTTP anymore.

Pidgin 2.5.1 is working for me as well. I didn't experience bugs with 2.5.0, but at least I can report no regressions in this new version.

Was this package synced from Debian or specially built by the Ubuntu developers themselves?

2.5.0 was built by an Ubuntu developer for Intrepid. I see Debian now has 2.5.0 in experimental. I think the idea will always be to sync from Debian if they release 2.5.1.
