Bug Description

In order to rescan I deleted the channels.conf file. On starting Me-TV the message "no channels.conf file would you like one created". Answer yes and hit next then select satellite, astra 28.2 in this case. The app then crashes with the message no usable channels in channels.conf. An empty channels.conf is created.

It's not a crash, it's called a graceful exit. This is not a bug, this is what Me TV is designed to do when it doesn't find any channels.

Changed in me-tv:
status: New → Invalid

OK, but the exit is instantaneous, it hasn't had the time to scan
anything. The channels should be there, they are if I use the dvb-utils
scan. So the bug, if there is one, is the failure to find channels. Or
is there something else I should re-set in order to run an auto scan ( I
tried to scan eurobird 28.5 as well as astra 28.2 as the card, skystar 2
picks up channels from both).

What type of device do you have, DVB-S? I really don't understand the networks/devices/setup that you described.

The setup is

PC running latest Ubuntu - 8.1
PCI Card for satellite reception - Skystar 2
connection from a BskyB type satellite dish to the plug on the skystar 2
card

The stuff about eurobird 28.5 is a distraction, it's just that astra and
eurobird are so close together that any satellite reception device not
specific to one provider, like a sky digibox or the new, to the UK
freesat boxes, will pick up stations from both satellites, it doesn't
matter which satellite one chooses to scan. I used to have a non sky
box, a technomate, and this does the same as the internal card. Infact
one can add eurobird channels to a bskyb box by fiddling with the add
channel options and putting in all the details by hand.

Shouldn't have mentioned it as it has nothing to do with the problem. I
dunno maybe it is the same satellite, but chucking a different range of
scan parameters at it, but I seem to recall that the technomate digibox
showed the different sat's in its' listing. Whatever, you end up with
the same stuff.

Anyhow Me-TV works fine with one of the channels.conf generated as
below, but it'd be nice to have autoscan.
