Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

This bug has been haunting me for ages, that task and memo previews aren't word-wrapped. Now it's fixed, and I'd really like to see a stable release update for hardy, since this improves usability quite noticeably and is obviously safe.

Upstream bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523327

Yes, as I said in the original report. However, that doesn't necessarily guarantee that an SRU will be released for hardy, which is what I was trying to accomplish.

This is fixed in the version from Intrepid, but even after several updates, it's not fixed in Hardy. I'd really appreciate it if someone could have a look at this, cause it's really annoying. As I understand it, it should be easily fixed.

closing the bug since that's fixed in intrepid, that's a small bug and that's the only request for a backport, stable updates require extra work and testing and every small bugfix is not backported, this one is not on the stable upload list for now

Right. Only 18 months to go until next LTS-release, right? A change of fonts is really problematic. Who do you think are the primary users of Evolution? Maybe businesses? Do you think it's remotely possible that businesses are also the ones to prefer the LTS-releases? If applications such as OpenOffice.org and Evolution won't receive updates in an LTS release, then we might as well switch to update every six months or switch to debian or something. I have a growing feeling that fancy is more important than useful in this community these days.

you should look at the list of the evolution uploads in hardy-updates before adding such comments, evolution had several updates and backports since hardy but GNOME has over 80 packages and there is tiny team working to triage all the bugs, do the intrepid updates and backport fixes to hardy. doing a fix backport is quite some work and backport the hundred of intrepid changes is not an option, this bug is a graphical detail, you are the only one who complained about it in years and it's easy to workaround so it's low priority for a stable update, now you are welcome to contribute by working on the stable update if you want but blaming overworked contributors to not work enough is not likely to bring you anything there
