i have the same problem. it is happening with the latest version of the facebookchat-plugin (1.37). sometimes it happens when you launch pidgin, sometimes later, during a conversation. notifications are turned off, so it can't be that...

unfortunately, this happens stochastically, so i can't define a fixed way to reproduce this...

it's not supported by ubuntu (but maybe we could put it in multiverse?)

please note that, with the facebook account disabled, pidgin never crashes, so this is almost definitely related to the pidgin-facebookchat plugin

also note that many of the related issues i mentioned above seem to indicate that this might be caused by the plugin handling incorrectly facebook chat being down for maintenance at times...

i can confirm this under Ubuntu 8.10 x86 without facebook plugin also of pidgin 2.5.2
